Landmark

The fairgrounds in Albacete, also known as the pot or the circles, is a permanent exhibition macroedificación monumental built in 1783, unique in the world, declared of Cultural Interest with the category of monument, located in the Spanish city of Albacete.

History

In 1783 it was agreed that a building in the eras of Santa Catalina. This was inaugurated on September 7, 1783 and fully completed the following year. From that date, the fair was held in the town of Albacete.

At the time of the inauguration in 1783, the building, made within 33 days after the plans of architect Josef Lopez Albacete Ximenez consisted of only the outer walls and the inner circle. It was completely finished the following year, 1784, by the master Antonio Cuesta, which improved the draft Ximénez adding a second ring and extending the entrance road (called the tail of the pan).


Although its dimensions were perhaps excessive for the time (in 1778 the city had only 7200 inhabitants and about 60 streets), since its establishment underwent several renovations and expansions, among which:

In 1888 two side doors near the main entrance opens to facilitate mass access to the site.
In 1912 the modernist kiosk of the center circle, design by Daniel Rubio is built. The same one, restored, preserved today.
In 1944 extension works are done adding the third circle of the Frying Pan, the exhibition hall and the two entrance pavilions ride. All this according to plans by Manuel Ortiz and Julio Carrilero.
In 1974, the neoclassic cover changes for the current white brick, following the design of architect Manuel Carrilero.
